WordPress is a free open-source content management system (CMS) that uses Hypertext Preprocessor (PHP), which is a commonly known, and widely used open source general-purpose computer programming scripting language. WordPress also utilizes the MySQL database management system to store files. WordPress can be downloaded for free on their website WordPress.org, and then uploaded to a web server via File Transfer Protocol (FTP), to create a very robust self hosted website and or blog, utilizing plugins and a theme of your choice. WordPress however is not to be confused with WordPress.com, which is not-self hosted, and offers various plans to run your website and or blog on their own servers.
