TCL Chinese Theatre
Top of the morning to you… well it depends on what side of the globe your on, or better yet top of the world famous TCL Chinese Theatre, originally called Grauman’s Chinese Theatre, namesake of showman and organizer Sid Grauman who developed the theatre in 1926. The Chinese electronic company giant TCL, stylized as “The Creative Life” purchased naming rights to the iconic theater in 2013, and during this partnership, the movie theater has undergone some much needed major upgrades and renovations.
For example, new sloped seating, new digital marquee, main lobby refurbishments and key technology upgrades for both the audio and visual presentation. Not only do these enhancements bring the cherished venue back to the glory days when showman-founder Sid Grauman first opened the theatre, but they will also give the storied movie palace a new lease on life and provide theatre-goers with a much improved, truly world-class movie experience. Many don’t know that Sid Grauman’s Chinese theater is responsible for the first big iconic, world famous Hollywood movie premiere back in the 1920s.
Today, these movie premieres are usually star studded, an event that no person with a steady pulse would want to miss. For example, the 2015 World Premiere of “Furious 7” at the TCL Chinese Theatre IMAX, went off without a hitch, with big stars such as Ludacris, Tyrese Gibson, Vin Diesel, The Rock and Michelle Rodriguez, who walked the red carpet. The day was eventful, yet emotional, so much so that the spirit of Paul Walker was felt throughout the day, what a day it was.
There’s also another special characteristic that only this fabulous theater has, it’s called the Forecourt of the Stars, just off the beaten path of the Hollywood Walk of Fame. The front courtyard of the theater literally has concrete slabs that contain footprints and hand prints of some of the most famous movie stars, from Joan Crawford to Whoopi Goldberg. Just before the Fast 7 world premiere, Vin Diesel even posed for the cameras after taking a concrete dip in 2015. He paid homage to his fans at the podium, with the Fast 7/ TCL Chinese Theatre Logo step and repeat backdrop. One of the most funniest episodes of “I Love Lucy” starring Lucile Ball was when:
Lucy complains that she doesn’t have nearly enough Hollywood souvenirs, a statement with which Ricky takes issue. When she and Ethel go to the Grauman’s Chinese Theater, they notice that John Wayne’s footprints are loose, so they pry the cement block out of the ground and take it back to the hotel. – Written by Attmay

TCL also made sure to preserve the essence of the classic Chinese Architecture, designed by Meyer & Holler for the 1920s, and the theater continues to be, one of the most beautiful theaters in the world.
The genius of Sid Grauman is very unique, he was Jewish-American who created a unique sub-culture of Hollywood that was dependant on other cultures. The theme of the Chinese theater was obvious, as well as the Egyptian Theater that contained motifs of ancient Africa’s Egypt, which of course is located further down the eastern portion of the Hollywood strip. The Hollywood moguls of today can take a look back and see what the founders, who cultivated the land of many dreams called Hollywood originally envisioned. A culture that should not be separate, and lean towards cultural divide of many different ethnic groups, backgrounds and creeds.
All of Sid Grauman‘s visionary babies, the Downtown Los Angeles Million Dollar Theater, Chinese Theater and the Egyptian Theatre have been preserved as a Los Angeles Historic-Cultural Monument. This is a man defiantly utilized his entrepreneurial skills and did the math for one of the many identifiable cultural problems of America. But because of our differences as human beings, we must learn from one another, to heal the cultural divide. Entertainment is a form of escapism, into a world that’s filled with something which is right, into a world filled with wrong. And through this, we shall all are inspired. Ironically, Grauman somehow knew the formula for the epicenter of show business, which is the box office.
Adjacent to the Chinese Theater is the Hollywood and Highland Center, which includes shops and eateries such as the Hard Rock Cafe to name a few, as well as the Dolby Theater, home of the Academy Awards ceremony. There’s also the entrance to the TCL Chinese 6 Theatre, where the additional theater auditoriums and concession stands reside. And even though the theater is almost a century old, it continues to be a major tourist attraction. Wherever the big tour buses come from, one can only Google the routes to find out, but they’re on tour on a daily basis. There are also plenty of costumed movie characters who take pictures with, which is one of the many cultural events that take place just outside the forecourt area, but make no mistake there will be daily large crowds gathering souvenirs and taking photographs all around the area.[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]Tickets to your favorite movies can be purchased at the box office of course, however if you prefer to browse the internet for showtimes you can visit TCLChineseTheatres.com, Fandango.com, MovieFone or MovieTickets.com. There’s also plenty of imprint ceremonies to attend, and of course there’s a VIP lounge as well as the opportunity to host a premiere, party or special event if you’re feeling jiggy.
TCL also added one of the world’s largest IMAX auditoriums, with a state of the art laser projection system to enhance the movie going experience. This 70 mm projection system for IMAX inside the TCL Chinese theatre was clearly the defining factor, responsible for the major shift in innovation, and technology. This bridging the gap, and bringing the theater up to speed within the 21st century was epic, the film “Interstellar” directed by Christopher Nolan is duly noted with being the first film that contained the full capacity to capture the entire IMAX experience for TCL.
