The First Assistant Director (1st AD) manages the shooting set’s schedule, workflow, communication, and operational coordination so the Director can focus on creative work. The 1st AD helps prepare the shooting schedule, runs the set, coordinates departments, tracks time, manages background and cast movement with the AD team, and plays a major role in set safety and daily production execution.
