Costume, wardrobe, hair, and makeup roles and workflows used to create, maintain, and track performers’ on-camera appearance and continuity.

Makeup Department Head

The Makeup Department Head supervises the makeup department and is responsible for planning and executing performers’ makeup requirements in collaboration with the Director, Production Designer, Costume Designer, Hair Department Head, and other creative departments. Work can include beauty, corrective, character, period, injury, aging, prosthetic coordination, and continuity needs.

Hair Department Head

The Hair Department Head supervises the hair department and oversees the design, preparation, styling, maintenance, and continuity of performers’ hair for a production. The department may also coordinate wigs, hairpieces, period styling, specialty builds, and other character-specific hair requirements.

Costume Designer

The Costume Designer is the department head responsible for designing and overseeing the clothing worn by performers in a film, television program, commercial, or other production. The designer develops character and period concepts, collaborates with the Director and Production Designer, and supervises sourcing, fabrication, fittings, alterations, continuity, and costume-department execution.

Costume

A costume is clothing designed, selected, built, altered, or coordinated for a performer to support character, period, story, continuity, and the visual design of a production. Costumes may be contemporary garments, period pieces, uniforms, fantasy designs, specialty builds, or other clothing created or sourced for screen or stage use.

Wardrobe

Wardrobe refers to the clothing and costume elements worn by performers in a film, television, commercial, or other production. The wardrobe or costume department prepares, fits, maintains, tracks, and manages those garments throughout production to support character, period, continuity, and the visual design of the project.
