Jhené Aiko

The Neo Soul genre of R&B as an ebb a flow that is undoubtedly noticeable, even if the Pop genre of urban Music is saturated. Artists like Jill Scott flourished in the 90s, but heavy rotation belongs to others who succumb to trends. It’s rare that an Artist in today’s society makes it big in the smaller Neo-Soul genre…but Jhené Aiko is of a mixed heritage which is a plus for her, because it makes for crossover mass appeal.[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text font_weight=”bold”]
Jhené Aiko was born and raised in Los Angeles, California, the daughter of Christina Yamamoto and Dr. Karamo Chilombo (birth name Greg Barnes), a pediatrician. However her sound is full of Soul. Her debut album Souled Out is a play on words as a tribute to Soul Music, which has been noticeably missing in today’s rotation in urban Radio. Kind of like her homeboy Nipsey Hussle. Jhené Aiko’s ever so melodic voice is captivating, just like the music which accompanies it. We believe Pop Music is necessary, but when the balance is off, and artists of other genres can’t get a piece of the “Music Pie”, then the streets no longer have a voice. Face it, music is universal and that’s the beauty of it, if the record labels and or radio stations continue to push one main genre, then the mixture that we all need will continue to cause a disenfranchisement of society as a whole. One Music, One Love. ONE!
