Jilly from Philly
~ “In west Philadelphia born and raised, on the playground is where I spent most of my”… Opps wrong song, wrong artist. This article is about Jill Scott, from northern Philadelphia AKA ~ Jilly from Philly ~ man what else can we say. She gave us a long walk in the park with DJ Jazzy Jeff, back in the day. Maybe that’s why I was confused… Yep, and that album could and should be played from beginning to end, and then back again.
This is truly what a classic R&B album is supposed to sound like. The platinum artist has five studio albums in her music catalogue. As well as many other jamin’ singles as well as soundtracks.
Jill Scott also no stranger to the silver screen, one of her most popular roles was in Tyler Perry’s Why Did I Get Married? With an all-black star-studded cast, Jill plays the character “Sheila” an attractive BBW wife, struggling with losing weight. Her husband’s derogatory verbally abusive behavior leads her to find someone new. After she finds a man who loves her for who she really is, she finds her smile again, and leaves her husband dead in his tracks, to eat his own regurgitated words.
In the much-anticipated sequel, Why Did I Get Married Too? Jill Scott joined the all-star cast once again to reprise the role. This time, she’s happy in love with her new husband, but her ex-husband is going through a life changing situation, and he needs her help asap. As challenging of a role this was, Jill Scott took it on as a pro, and has amassed a nice acting resume to go along with her fabulous singing career.
Jilly from Philly also played Deidre “Dee-Dee” Jenkins the second former wife of the late great James Brown in the film “Get on Up” starring Chadwick Boseman.
To be a queen of a household is a powerful thing. – Jill Scott
Her acting skills have proven to be just as superb as her singing skills. Matter of fact Miss Jill Scott is an all-around entertainer, when it comes down to R&B, Soul Music, as well as the eclectic Neo Soul. She’s defiantly one of a kind.
Just like other R&B artists such as Sade, Jill Scott is one of those rare music artists that can go on a four-year hiatus from music, and still be relevant years later. Miss Jill Scott is no stranger to controversy though, in one of musical concerts she gave a demo of her oral skills with her imaginary friend on stage utilizing the microphone in a very creative way.
I think every individual has his or her own power, and it’s a matter of working, taking time and defining what that power is. – Jill Scott
The subject matter could be sensitive to some and literately arousing to others, depending on the age of the person, or situation. Jill responded on Twitter with kind words, and just kept it pushin’.
This golden girl has made age nothing but a number, cause she’s living her life that for real. Make no mistake about it, Jill Scott is as fine, as as fine can get, and she has the golden voice to match. It’s a wonder why Jill’s real-life relationships turn out to be the type she refuses to date.
All in all, Jill Scott sings all about love, and even though love seems to be evasive in her own personal life, she is free to demonstrate how a woman should truly love a man. Physically and emotionally, relationships are a true reflection of we, and even if it doesn’t work out for better or worse, there is a lesson to be learned, and growth for the mature. We hope that Jilly from Philly will continue to sing, I mean sang her songs of life, liberty and the Pursuit of Happyness. Just like Jill spoke of Rasool a King, but also a fool he was too busy chasing Fools Gold, but she was living life that is Golden.
So if we were to spark a conversation with Miss Jill Scott, it would go a little something like this…Is it The Way… you take A Long Walk were you Wanna Be Loved because I know you’re Watching Me…Smh…Whatever Jilly you know Whenever Your Around, can You Come See Me…Cause I once had an Epiphany and it was Socialbilitty baby! I’m not Afraid. I just want you to take away this Insomnia, but I think we’ve Said Enough.
You know when you let the music take you over for a minute and you feel that tingling sensation on the back of your neck, on your arms and all over, it’s when your soul feels a tingle, like autonomous sensory meridian response and it’s all good. Oh yeah… Jilly from Philly you do just that with your music. She just provides an unforgettable experience with her being a funky, soulful, creative, powerful and dynamic woman.

God is ever present. He’s in every breath, in every step. He’s here, always, always. – Jill Scott
Videos Courtesy of: www.youtube.com/user/missjillscottJill Scott is truly hard to categorize because of her versatility. But if we were to attempt to put her in a proverbial box of musical categorization, we would place Jill at the top of R&B, Soul, Neo Soul Music. Even though she can do much more and we do appreciate that very much!
Many music artists come and go, but only the true talented artists like Jill Scott are blessed with standing the test of time. They seem to be able to claim their audience at any time and host a venue on a world stage. Not to mention perform a musical performance that will remain in the memories of all those who attend.
