Whatever the mind of man can conceive and believe, it can achieve. – Napoleon Hill
Food for thought… Empowering words from a book everyone should read, reread and read again. This picture was taken with this type of inspiration in mind, a pet rock with a massive, mass appeal, mind over matter… And who would of thought it would have become so popular… Well Michael Heizer must have read Think and Grow Rich because who else but an Artist would have seen such beauty in a rock. It’s how anyone could befit from Riches, not just Money but the riches of Life. The pleasure of seeing a vision, and then making that vision become reality. That’s true riches, the money will come when a man sees the value of your vision. Thus, Think and Grow Rich… as in it takes the time to Grow…
In this photo is a rock, but not just any kind of rock, this is a bolder of opportunity, an opportunity for all to enjoy an artistic endeavor. With it costing upwards of $10 million dollars to fund, Levitated Mass is a large-scale nature made sculpture, created in 2012. This artistic master piece by the hand of God and artist Michael Heizer, now sits on the campus of the Los Angeles County Museum of Art. But just like the late artist Chris Burden with his Urban Light, this type of art is off the beaten path. It took an approximate 150 million-year-old boulder of granite, weighing more than 340-tons, standing approximately 21 feet high marvel of nature to create this. With an logistic challenge, the transporting of this huge boulder took place over 105 miles, utilizing a custom made 206-wheeled tractor trailer, all the way to it’s home in 11 days to LACMA. The installation consists is affixed above a concrete trench through which visitors may walk.
Filmmaker Doug Pray is credited with creating a documentary film “Levitated Mass” that explains this crazy, fun, demanding, insane quest that artist Michael Heizer took himself, and everyone else involved through, from spectator to crew member. Some say it’s not art, because it came from nature. One thing we do know, is that it’s an art to get that thing to sit on a ledge, and stay there safely, for kids to have fun and walk under, take an pictures on instagram with the illusion that their holding it up just like Hercules. It’s sure to get many likes for the photo on their profile. The LACMA exhibit is permanent, all year round for all to see and appreciate.
The nature, expense and scale of the installation made it an instant topic of discussion within the art world. The piece is open to the public during museum hours and does not require museum admission. Read More…Wikipedia.org
